Have you played your part?

 Hello everyone!

It just so happens to be that we as individuals are the sole hope for making our planet a cut above for the next generation. Our individual endeavors, regardless of how tiny or big, can immensely help in achieving the sustainable development goals set by the United Nations. Our communities are slowly starting to realize how our day-to-day activities affect our natural environments. The point most of us don’t see is that those activities also have an effect on our fellow friends and family. That is why I think it is vital to acknowledge that the reason why we are facing climate change and so on isn’t only because of these large companies, we are all a part of the problem.

The most important role that I have played so far in achieving sustainability is pursued my education. You may be wondering, what does that have to do with attaining sustainability? Education helps with supplying the necessary expertise for people to excel in a more sustainable society where people get jobs in areas that are related to renewable energy and so on. Most importantly though, an education can help change the way we look at things and what our influence on the planet will be. This goes to show that education can stretch our opportunities and support the toughness of our societies.

Another vital role in achieving sustainability that I need to start making a habit of is to reuse stuff. When we start reusing stuff, we create less wastage. Let us say you decide to go get a cup of coffee from Starbucks, however today you bring along a reusable mug. Even though it may seem small that you decided not to use a disposable cup, imagine if you do that every day. It will eventually add up to make a really huge difference. The tiny things like reusing a piece of paper or printing on a piece of paper that is used on one side helps to drastically reduce our ecological footprint when we do it constantly. The moment we start repurposing our everyday items, we are maintaining the energy it would have taken to get another one to you.

We can help in all aspects when it comes to sustainability. For instance, if you happen to be an active person then you can play your part by joining volunteer projects. Things like joining a clean the lake volunteer event where you spend the weekend cleaning up the lakes and the park around it. Start with the tiny activities that seem achievable so that we can start somewhere when it comes to taking care of our planet. It does seem like I got a lot of work to do because it turns out if people lived like me, we would need four piles of Earth!

Remember, we have to start thinking sustainably because every drop in the ocean makes a difference.
